Class Description
We prepare students for future dance classes through hard work and practice. Our dance classes encourage growth in both dance fundamentals and in essential skills that can be used outside of the studio. We understand that dancing not only becomes a physical skill, but a social and emotional tool. Our dance classes are designed to inspire social skills and contribute to self-awareness. We hope to spark confidence in your dancer as they master their dance steps at the Pat Harris Dance Studio’s. Our experienced instructors are passionate about helping each dancer achieve their highest potential.

PARENT - TOT
(Walking) to AGE 3 PARENT & TODDLER A “Parent and Toddler”
A creative movement class designed to enhance gross motor skills, spatial awareness, imagination, creativity, manners and sharing. Movement interactive class for baby and parent.
AGE 3-4
PRE-BALLET CREATIVE MOVEMENT
Ballet etiquette and basics such as classical ballet terminology, positions, and movements are introduced in a structured yet fun environment. Basic coordination, body awareness and gross motor skills are improved while exploring using props and innovative activities.This class continues to build awareness and use of individual creative movement ideas. Fundamental directional movement and use of floor patterns are incorporated in this class.

BALLET, TAP, JAZZ INTRODUCTION
Students will learn core fundamentals of Ballet and Tap positions, terminology, basic steps & execute engaging fun combinations while building strength, muscle and increasing flexibility. Half is ballet, second half of class is tap. These classes are a combination of ballet, tap, and some tumbling. We have developed a very effective program for our youngest students. Concentrating on gross motor skills and group skills using music and movement promoting a great environment for a positive learning experience. At this point, we start to emphasize technique. ballet is taught using a more structured method and tap steps progress through a series of graded exercises. We incorporate exercises into group activities using the latest appropriate music to help motivate the children. Strict turnout is not advocated until the students are a few years older with more mature bones and muscles.

BALLET , JAZZ, CONTEMPORARY
These classes focuses on posture, body alignment and placements as they play a key role in laying the foundation of classical technique. Specific steps & combinations to various rhythms helps dancers to develop a strong sense of emotion, musicality and dexterity. These classes also help to develop the memorization skills needed to master choreography. This class variety is a favorite among many of our students. Everyone loves the opportunity to explore the new dance moves taught in this class, while also mastering the classic moves. Our amazing instructors make sure everyone gets individual attention while keeping the class collaborative.
HIP HOP
This class explores a wide range of styles notably breaking, locking, and popping while learning proper jazz warm ups and stretch and prepare the body for dancing. Choreography and music selections are age appropriate.Hip hop class is a fun way to get a great workout and learn new skills and engage new body movement.
Whether you’re looking to learn new dance moves or hone in on your existing talent, this class is what you are looking for. The instructors are committed to giving each student attention while also moving the class forward.
UPPER DIVISION , INT/ADV
As students grow, they are grouped according to age and/or ability. Jazz is an exciting addition to the combination classes for these dancers. We use upbeat, age-appropriate music and educate them to all styles of jazz dancing from Broadway to Fosse. Pre-pointe ballet and pointe classes are available for dancers deemed ready for this advanced discipline. Instructor will judge each individual’s state of readiness. We teach contemporary dance using techniques, self-discovery and free movement concentrating on using your core. Hip hop class is a fun way to get a great workout and learn new skills and body movement.
JAZZ
Jazz has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent years, mainly due to its popularity on television shows, movies, music videos and commercials. People enjoy watching jazz dancers, as the movement is fun and energetic. Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. It is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns, depending on the experience level. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance that will be incorporated into the foundations of this style.
BALLET
Ballet is the foundation of all dance styles. A classic dance form with specific terminology, technique, and choreography. Ballet class is highly structured and regimented due to the classical technique that must be fostered and perfected. Class begins by warming up at the barre and then continues to center floor, followed by linking together combinations across the floor.
Adult Dance
Dancing works the muscles and fibers that control posture. Muscles, located around the spine, contract to help you maintain posture. When you don’t have good muscle tone, the muscles have to work harder to contract, so they get tired more quickly. Dancing works the core muscles –stomach and back—as well as the muscles surrounding the spine. As you train, you’ll gain better posture and better muscle tone. Adult contemporary Interpretive and abstract dance with roots in Ballet and a focus on storytelling and emotional connection to the music. Accessible to all levels. Mikhail Baryshnikov is a shining example of someone who carved an entire career out of this unique style. Twyla Tharp also came alongside to further develop the style known as contemporary ballet today. TAP
Our exciting tap classes focus on rhythm, coordination, terminology, and retention of dynamic tap choreography. At higher level classes, various styles are taught including Broadway-style and Rhythm tap. We will work on rhythms, steps and combinations that are suited for any age that wants to try tap for the first time or one who grew up dancing and wants to get back into the studio again! This fun, fast paced class is great exercise, great music and will have you shuffle ball changing in no time!
Ballroom
Ballroom is a couple’s dance
Ballroom program does not run throughout the full academic year. 4 week courses are offered intermittently throughout the year. The beginner course covers the Fox-Trot, Waltz, and Swing. Ballroom 2 classes are occasionally offered, and private lessons are also available. Please check back here for upcoming class schedules.
